PHOENIXVILLE - The Phoenixville Area Business Association has announced the election of new officers for the coming year who will take over the reigns of the organization in January 2009.
Ellie Acampora, owner of Ellie's Choice, resurrected PABA several years ago and served as the Association's able president for the last five years. Acampora and a growing collection of concerned business owners have promoted programs and events designed to improve the downtown business district under the PABA name.
Jane Tucker, co-owner of Steel City Coffee House, has been elected new PABA president for 2009. Other new officers include vice president-elect Paul Oliver of Wolfgang Books, replacing current VP Ken Beard of Jaworski's Music Center, and new treasurer Rebeckah Ray, owner of Morning Star Bed and Breakfast, replacing Tom Noone of Noone Antiques. Kathy Bestwick, executive director of the Phoenix Village Art Center will remain on the board as secretary.
All votes on new officers were unanimous, and the change in leadership comes at a crucial time for the organization as new businesses join PABA as a result of ongoing borough revitalization and business growth, according to Tucker.
"PABA has a long history in Phoenixville, well over 30 years," Tucker said in a statement. "It is operated by local business owners and leaders of various non-profit organizations who have a vested interest in the development of Phoenixville and care about the community."
Tucker announced this week that the organization has set new goals for the new officers, which will include creating a new "Internet presence for the organization, complete with a list of member businesses and non-profits and an events page that will showcase all the special events in the area."
According to Tucker, upcoming PABA events include Sunday's Flower Power Music Festival, slated for the Colonial Theatre at 8 p.m.
The Flower Power Music Festival will feature folk jam bands Hoots and Hellmouth, Old School Freight Train, Tin Bird Choir and fiddler Matt Brown. Tickets are $15, $18, and $25, and can be purchased at Steel City Coffee House or online at www.steelcitycoffeehouse.com.
This concert will help raise money for the display of flowers on the street next summer and for seasonal decor. The Phoenixville Area Business Association members paid for the hanging flower baskets and the maintenance of the flowers along Bridge Street this summer.
PABA is also raffling off a 2008 Roketa gas-powered scooter to help raise money for street beautification and other PABA projects. Scooter tickets are available at
many Bridge Street businesses for $5 each or five for $20. The scooter will be raffled off at the Flower Power Music Festival.
In addition, PABA will be holding a Progressive Dinner in downtown Phoenixville on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The Progressive Dinner will feature a four-course meal including an aperitif at a local retailer, a starter course, entree course, and dessert course at three different restaurants. Tickets are $65 per person and are available online at www.steelcitycoffeehouse.com and in person at Steel City Coffee House or Fashionista's Salon.
Tickets are limited and reservations are made on a first come, first serve basis. A full menu is available online.
