High end wine store planned for Phoenixville
Efforts to get a liquor store back in the Phoenixville downtown have been on going. However, the efforts of the leadership are finally coming to fruition.

The PHOENIX, February 6, 2010 -- Efforts to get a liquor store back in the Phoenixville downtown have been on going. However, the efforts of the leadership are finally coming to fruition.

In August, leadership in Phoenixville along with Rep. Paul Drucker attended a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board meeting (PLCB) to ask for a new store in the downtown.

The PLCB is interested in placing a high-end wine store in the downtown, paired with a gourmet food store. This is a new concept store that the PLCB is testing out. A similar style store opened on 11th and Market Streets in Philadelphia.

The wine store would carry high end wines not found in traditional liquor stores, adding an extra incentive for people to come into the downtown.

The PLCB met with Phoenixville leadership and representatives from Geis Realty Group Inc and determined that Phoenixville was a good location for a high-end wine store and gourmet food store.

"I am so pleased to be able to assist with the opening of a specialty wine store in Phoenixville," said Rep. Drucker. "Not only will it help local restaurants and businesses, but it will create a few jobs as well."

PLCB is looking for partners for the gourmet food store and at potential sites for the store. Being considered is 135, 220 and 191 Bridge Street. 191 Bridge Street would be part of the new development scheduled for the block of apartment homes currently located there.

The PLCB is looking for a storefront of 4,000 to 6,000 sq. ft., 1,000 of which would be the wine store.

The program is entirely new to PLCB. The food store and wine store would operate as separate entities, however, they would hold the same hours.

The expected opening date for the wine store and gourmet food store is June.
